Star Wars 1313 Development Won't be Affected by Disney

Yesterday it was announced that Disney has acquired LucasFilms along with it's subsidiaries like LucasArts for $4.05 Billion. LucasArts has said the the acquisition will not affect the development of Star Wars 1313, the first person bounty hunter game set in the Star Wars universe.

LucasArts issued a statement which originally appeared on IGN saying that "it's business as usual" for all internal projects at the studio. Not only does Disney plan on releasing a new Star Wars film every two to three years after the release of Star Wars Episode 7 in 2015, but they also have a plan for video games.

Earlier this week in a conference call Disney chief executive Robert Iger talked about Disney's plans to utilize the Star Was license in games. He revealed that the company plans to work on social and mobile game internally while relying on licensing deals to allow third party developers to work on games for consoles.

Now that LucasArts falls under the internal banner of Disney it will be interesting to see if continue developing for consoles after the release of Star Wars 1313 or if their projects are shifted to the mobile and social space.

As long as there is a governing body looking after the cannon and continuity I think the franchise will be fine.
