Season's Beatings: Ascension, September 28th - 30th
Written by Peter Pesic Tuesday, 25 September 2012 21:08

Coming up this weekend, is the 2012 installment of the long running Season's Beatings, major fighting game tournament. With so many epic Marvel vs Capcom 2 moments happening at this tournament, it's widely regarded as THE Marvel tournament. The tradition continued with the release of Marvel vs Capcom 3, with the tournament matches and the organized exhibition matches (last year included a Good vs Evil MvC3 event involving Team Evil comprised of Phoenix players).
Known for its hype generating Marvel matches, the tournament organizers at Godlike Entertainment have by no means neglected the multitude of other fighting games. The roster of players to attend the past and forthcoming Seasons Beatings, have been the cream of the crop, obviously working hard to bring some very notable international players to the tournament. Some of the confirmed international players I'm looking forward to seeing are: Street Fighter 4 AE 2012 and Street Fighter X Tekken EVO champion WW.MCZ Infiltration, King of Fighters 13 EVO champion Cafeid MadKOF, both from South Korea, Japan's eccentric UMvC3 Spiderman player FRB Mamespider, who really embraces the WWF atmosphere of Marvel, and from Mexico TA Frutsy who took out a laundry list of UMvC3 heavy hitters to place 5th at EVO with the unconventional team of M.O.D.O.K / Captain America / Taskmaster.
In addition to the guaranteed high level tournament play, the Season's Beatings Exhibition matches always produce highly entertaining and memorable moments, and should not be missed. Although, for the team events the players have not been confirmed as yet, be sure to watch live on Saturday, starting at 9:30PM EST (6:30PM PST). If you can't stream monster it up, definitely check the archive for:
UMvC3 U.S. vs the World - 5 vs 5 team battle, where every player will face off of against every player on the other side. Although specific players on each side haven't been revealed, with the most likely players on each side, there will be high level Marvel play with a variety of characters, and no doubt antics and pop offs.
SFIV:AE2012 Team Evil Geniuses vs the Best of the Rest - 5 vs 5 team battle with the same round robin rules of the UMvC3 team event. Evil Geniuses has been one of the pioneering teams in competitive gaming, also one of the first major organizations to sponsor a fighting game player when they signed Justin Wong. Their Fighting Game division is a murderers row of veterans, all who have clout in Street Fighter IV including, Justin Wong, Ricky Ortiz, fLoe, PR Balrog, Momochi, and Choco Blanka. I suspect the other team will probably be comprised of MCZ.MRN Wolfkrone, WW.MCZ Infiltration, BT Diemini0n, and WW.MCZ Laugh, certainly no shortage of great players outside of EG.

Also there will be a special First to 10 Exhibition between FC Chris G and TA Frutsy. TA Frutsy has claimed he has tech to combat Chris G's very dominant Morrigan / Dr.Doom tactics. Chris G is definitely one of my favourite Marvel players, a true technician that adapts quickly. Frutsy's EVO 2012 run was one of the big stories this year, proving he has composure to play against the big names. This will most likely be more chess like than the usual frantic UMvC3 pace.
As with last year, Team Spooky will be streaming the event, here's the live link after the event I'll update with the archive links.
