4A's Metro 2033 was based on a novel of the same name by Dmitry Glukhovsky whose movie rights have been purchased by MGM. A big screen adaptation of the book will probably follow a similar vein as the game which focuses more on the action elements of the novel.
F. Scott Frazier is currently penning the script for MGM while Mark John of Good Morning, Vietnam and The Chronicles of Narnia is set to produce. Some adaptations never end up getting to the big screen so don't hold your breath until you see some casting news.
Metro 2033 follows a society of humans who now live in the subway below a post apocalyptic Moscow. Mutants are a prevalent issue for the towns that have sprung up at each station. 4A is currently working on a sequel to the game Metro: Last Light which is due out sometime in 2013.
