Michael Fassbender who has become known for his roles in X-Men First Class, Haywire and Prometheus will be starring in and co-producing Ubisoft's big screen adaptation of their Assassin's Creed series through his DMC film states Variety.
The plot of the film will revolve around a man who learns his ancestors were trained assassins and is kidnapped by a secret organisation with ties to the knights Templar who send him back in time to retrieve historical artifacts, same as the first game.
"Michael Fassbender was our first choice to play the franchise's iconic hooded hero," said Jean-Julien Baronnet, CEO of Ubisoft Motion Pictures. "Michael (Fassbender) is an extremely smart, talented, versatile and committed actor."
Sony was approached to develop the series at first but Ubisoft later decided to create the film independantly to have more creative control, unlike the previously released Prince of Persia film.
Stay tuned for more info on the upcoming film.
