Rumours regarding the development of Dead Island 2 had begin to swirl after Techland trademarked the name Dead World. Recently IGN Germany detailed that Deep Silver was working with Yager Development on the anticipated sequel. The original story cited an advertisement seeking a lead artist and art director to begin working on Dead Island 2 after the developer was finished with Spec Ops: The Line for THQ. Regarding these rumors Guido Eickmeyer, Development Director of Deep Silver told IGN:
“We are neither working with Yager on Dead Island 2 nor do we have any contractual agreement with Yager about any project at this point. Yager and Deep Silver do have a very close relationship, based on personal and professional connections between the parties...However, we have neither something in place or in discussion between the parties that would explain such a news, nor do we have Dead Island 2 in concept or production with external partners."
While it may be disheartening to learn that it isn't currently being developed it is safe to say that at some point we will get a sequel. The original Dead Island shipped over 3 million copies and has to be deemed a success by Techland.
